Today is a bit cooler and overcast. I found myself admiring this jacket, the cut of which is difficult to see in this photo but was completely lovely on her in person.

Mixtes across the Hexagon

While I couldn't possibly photograph all the mixtes I saw in France, here are a few of the photos that were convenient to get. I've mentioned that I came to urban cycling after living in Paris, upon returning I'm convinced that the archetype of the mixte frame entered my subconscious while I was there and that is why I love it so. They are so very practical, always have fenders and little platform racks, are lighter than most city bikes... I still don't own one, but they are lovely, aren't they?

This lady in Paris has the only reflective ankle strap I saw in France:



There's no lycra here in deep Provence! Monsieur was pumping up that tire and fiddling with the bike. I couldn't wait long enough to get a photo of him riding, but he must have gotten it running because the next day the bike was gone.



Fully loaded for camping in Lyon, that may be a 2 Second tent but I learned it's two seconds to put up and about twenty minutes to fold back down again:

Summer City Cyclist

What a handsome chap! I spotted him in the South End last night.

Gentleman Cyclist

There is no doubt but that when this gentleman steps off his bike he no longer appears to be a cyclist. So here's proof! One can bicycle with no special clothes.
I love his cap.

Saturday Night Date

Saturday evening, his hat, shirt, and shoes matching, I imagine this gentleman is off for a date.

It looks scary but that bus was stopping at a red. Phew!

Staying Light Longer

We even have enough time for a casual ride/bike date after work.

Winter City Cyclist

I was taken with how she held her own against our frigid temperatures as she went marketing. I will say that it's the wind that makes it cold and her long coat would do a lot to protect against that wind. Clearly this was a woman who thought about her outfit before leaving the house on her lovely old bike. I LOVE the aubergine tights, though I'm too much of a wuss to wear tights these days. Wool mittened applause for you, fellow winter cyclist!

Keeping his hands warm

Winter cyclists, don't forget to take your hands off the handlebars and stretch and move them, rub them together, whatever, to keep the blood flowing.

Happy hands keep cyclists happy.

Helmet hair? Add a hat

If you can't carry it any other way, just wear it with your helmet. Easy on, easy off...

Hurray for ladies of all ages on bikes!

Blue Strapless Dress

She was going so fast I mostly missed her. Still, that dress there is fighting gravity without the help of straps. Go blue dress girl!

Stuck a feather in his cap...

I'd seen him going the other way where the feather was more obvious, but my trigger finger was too slow. I got him on his return, and whistled "Yankee Doodle" the rest of the evening.

Gracious Boston

OK America - If a lady my grandma's age can ride a bike this elegantly on the mean streets of Boston, there is no excuse for the rest of us.

I'll see you on your bike! If you're still there in sixty years? That's cycle chic.

Confidence

I was struck by this woman's confidence on the road. She wasn't aggressive, but still had a forceful presence (in a good way!).
